Kona Coffee
Kona coffee, grown on Hawaiis Kona coast, has long had the reputation for being the worlds finest coffee. Since 1827, Kona Coffees rich flavor and full body have drawn acclaim. King Kamehameha II visited Europe and sent the first coffee trees back home to the Hawaiian Islands. Coffee was grown on all of the islands until sugarcane and pineapple took over as Hawaiis cash crops. The Kona Coast of Hawaiis Big Island continues to grow coffee. Retired cane workers, who were given land unsuitable for sugar production, started small farms. Today, as sugar mills and pineapple canneries close, coffee plantations re-emerging on all Hawaiian Islands.
