100% Hawaiian Coffee
Hawaiian coffee has long held a reputation as some of the world's best coffee. Kona coffee in particular has gained in popularity due to its rich, full body. While visiting Europe in the mid 1800's, King Kamehameha II brought European coffee trees home to the Hawaiian Islands for the first time. Coffee was grown extensively on all the islands until sugar cane and the pineapple took over as Hawaii's cash crops. The Kona coast of the Big Island continued growing Hawaiian coffee because a handful of small farms were started by retired cane workers who were given mountain land unsuitable for sugar production. Today, as sugar mills and pineapple canneries are closing, coffee plantations are re-emerging on all the Hawaiian islands.
