2nd Annual Front Street Jazz and Blues Walk

It was such a tough decision to choose who to see, the list of groups was awesome – see previous post. We decided to stick to the Banyan Tree end of Front Street for Friday and Saturday.

On Friday taking in Phil & Angela Benoit – smooth jazz, a perfect way to end the work week; then Phil Smith and The Gentlemen of Jazz. Phil and the “Gentlemen” didn’t disappoint a perfect accompaniment to the sunset!

On Saturday, we opted for Sal Godinez and Bob Harrison at Blue Lagoon. Much to our surprise, Sal was joined by Danny Meola, Sam Ahia and David Choy!! Great jam session.

Next, we headed to The Pioneer Inn’s courtyard for a great prime rib dinner and the Hot Club of Hulaville show. Oh my, what a wonderful venue and Hot Club was marvelous! I hear they’re looking to come back to Maui in August – will keep you posted. (PS: I know we’re all iPod/Pandora/MP3 on music; but Hot Club’s Na Hokuhanohano Award-winning CD “Django Would Go” is a must purchase – the “extras” within the packaging are pricless, trust me!)

For the finale Sunday noon time at The Banyan Tree, we took in R.E. Metoyer Rock, Jazz & Soul Revue. Sitting under the huge 139-year-old tree and listening to the great music and watching people doing impromptu dances was a delight. There were a couple of very young girls who really put on a show!

As we headed home to Upcountry Maui, we realized it was one of the most relaxing weekends we’d had in a very long time! Can’t wait until next year!
