Sir Wilfred's Coffee with Exotic Flavor Kona coffee has long held a reputation as one of the world's finest coffees. Its rich flavor and full body have drawn acclaim since its origin in 1827. While visiting Europe, King Kamehameha II sent the first coffee trees home to the Hawaiian Islands. Coffee was grown on all the islands until sugar cane and the pineapple took over as Hawaii's cash crops. The Kona coast of the Big Island continued growing coffee because a handful of small farms were started by retired cane workers who were given mountain land unsuitable for sugar production. Today, as sugar mills and pineapple canneries are closing, coffee plantations are re-emerging on all the islands.
